Why Your AI Agents Can't Find Your Business Data

If your business data isn't structured for AI, your agents, chatbots, and voice assistants are flying blind. Here's the fix.

Your website was built for humans. But increasingly, the "visitor" is not a person — it's an AI agent. ChatGPT browsing mode, Google's AI Overviews crawler, Perplexity's research bot — they all need to parse your data the same way a human-readable page serves a person.

The data accessibility gap

Humans read naturally. AI engines need structure. When an AI agent lands on your page, it's looking for: what the company is called, what it offers, who it serves, where it's located, and what makes it credible. If that information is buried in a paragraph or carousel, the AI has to guess — and guessing leads to incorrect or missing citations.

Structured data = machine-readable trust

JSON-LD schema.org markup is the solution. It's a standardized format that explicitly tells AI engines: "This is an Organization. This is a Service. This is a FAQ answer." When your data is structured this way, AI agents can extract facts with high confidence — and cite your brand as the source.

The schema types that matter most

  • Organization — name, logo, founding date, description, social profiles
  • LocalBusiness — address, geo-coordinates, hours, service areas
  • Service — what you sell, with pricing and service area
  • FAQPage — customer questions with direct answers
  • Article / BlogPosting — for content marketing
